EPQ lesson - 11/09/18
Last week we had the first EPQ lesson since summer 2018, so the beginning was spent catching up and talking about what we had completed during the summer break.
Miss made a list of the things we should have done, or at least begun during the summer;
- Our summer blog
- Begun researching our topic, whether this be using online resources or the library etc. (Miss made it very clear that we should use at least two different styles of resources, such as the internet, books, or even taking part in primary research (such as doing lab work, etc.))
- Completed page 5 of the CRF
- Finished making a plan, if we hadn't done so already
We should be organising our second supervisor meeting as this will be the 'approval meeting' in which Miss Heath listens to my idea, and essentially gives me advice on little things to tweak and change, so I can confidently begin my researching process. If I decide to completely change my idea in the future, I will have to organise another approval meeting with Miss Heath, as this is a large part of the documented EPQ planning process.
Sir, who is helping run these lessons, encouraged that we work towards objectives: what do we want to work towards/ achieve? What do we want the outcome of completing an EPQ to be?
We were given a few minutes to think about our own objectives, mine being to improve my:
- researching skills
- time management
- analysis skills (this will also help me in English Literature, which is what I wish to do in uni)
- ability to respond to challenges quicker e.g. my initiative
It was advised that we bring up our objectives in our second supervisor meeting, as this will inform our supervisors of what we wish to achieve and they can help guide us in the right direction.
The last 10 minutes of the lesson was spent talking to peers about what they did over summer, and taking turns to talk about the subject of our EPQs and why we chose them.
